Portage Glacier Alaska

Portage Glacier is located on the way to Seward AK, around 50 miles southeast of Anchorage at the tip of Turnagain Arm. Portage Glacier is one of the road accessible glaciers in Alaska and reached by driving south from Anchorage on the Seward Highway to turnoff where the town of Portage was prior to the 1964 earthquake. Turn and drive west on Portage Glacier Road for about 6 miles then follow the signs to the Begich, Boggs Visitor Center. The glacier can also be viewed by following Portage Glacier Road to the pullout just before the tunnel access to Whittier, AK.

$ Viewing is via Portage Glacier Cruises $39.00 adult, $19.00 children.

$ 5½ hour Portage Glacier Cruise Tour $89.95 adult, $39.95 children. Tour includes the Alaska Wildlife Conservation Center.

Round trip transportation from the downtown Hilton in Anchorage is included with the 5½ hour.

 

Portage Glacier is 55 miles from Anchorage, (110 miles round trip).
